GRAND TIME AT ABIQUIU LAKE RESERVOIR, TAOS, AND DIXON IN NEW MEXICO
September 24-27, 2015

We arrived to a beautiful sky sunset in the region where artist Georgia O’Keefe loved to paint the red rock landscapes of New Mexico. Our friends Lee and Shelby Leonard from Dixon, NM drove up along with their dog Freckles to camp with us and have a sail with their wooden dory here at Abiquiu Lake.

We had christened JR’s dory on its maiden launch in the Florida Everglades  years prior with them when we first met.
The two dories beneath Cerro Pedernal (Flint Mountain) out on Abiquiu Lake was the best sailing JR has ever had in his dory he claims.

On top of Kitchen Mesa, with the legendary mountain Pedernal in the background. Georgia O’Keefe made many paintings of Pedernal and the desert landscape canyons around Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu where she once lived.

We enjoyed three days visiting together with the Leonards between Abiquiu, Taos, and at their lovely southwestern adobe home they had designed and built themselves on their three acres. We were treated to homemade pizza one evening and breakfast burritos to die for one morning all made from scratch for us.

JR and I drove to Taos and walked the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, enjoyed a craft fair held in the park and strolled around the plaza.
Taos was celebrating  an evening of lighting creativity to honor the artists who have set up studios and galleries in town during the past 100 years. Lee and Shelby joined us for dinner and a stroll around town that night as we all enjoyed a throw back to the ‘60s with music and artists light creations beneath a full moon over Taos.
