TRAVELING THE NATCHEZ TRACE PARKWAY

Stopping at Emerald Indian Mound on the Trace Parkway
Roadside wildflowers galore

Driving 444 miles on the Natchez Trace Parkway between Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee was a nice break from the grind of the interstates and gave us some  time to appreciate the natural beauty of this part of the country. There were gently rolling hills, and some curves, but overall, it was a very leisurely drive along lush green countryside.

The route meandered through lovely scenery with dogwood and redbud trees, and had countless stops at both scenic and historic spots.

There were hiking trails, places to walk some of the original route of the Old Trace, great views of the surrounding area, forests, waterfalls, farms, fields, streams, rivers - something for just about everyone to enjoy. The historic stops were informative and interesting. If roads could share their stories, few would have a better tale to tell than the Natchez Trace.
The Old Trace pathway which parallels the NT Parkway has felt the tread of early Indians, marching Civil War armies, intrepid pioneers, boatless riverboatmen , and Spanish conquistadors over 700 years. Oh my what stories these folks could tell. For anyone who likes beautiful scenery, an unhurried drive, and not very much traffic, this place was a true gem.
